Synopsis: New Generation Queens is a documentary about Zanzibar's women's soccer team. On an island where religion bars women from playing soccer, the Queens very existence resists cultural norms and complicates local assumptions about Islam and gender identity. When the girls qualify for a tournament on the mainland of Tanzania, they have a chance to leave the island for the first time and compete in front of scouts for Tanzania’s national team.
